a-lab is a research and design collective practicing across spatial design (object, interior, urban, digital) and architecture. We study and design for the asymmetries of everyday life. Our work sits between teaching and practice. We are grounded in Tāmaki Makaurau and in the relationships to land and place that come with practising in Aotearoa. Our own position draws on a mix of Pacific, Asian, Māori, and Pākehā traditions of dwelling and knowing. 

Rather than blending these, we learn from the friction between them.
